Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tom McCann on April 18, 2007:

Charlie was my roommate cow year, along with Lloyd Walker. What a mis-match. I was a gymnast turned yell leader with two Army Football players. Yet it was probably one of the funnest semesters I can remember. Charlie had a special way of making people fit in and feel part of the group - although he did keep you on your toes with his quick wit. He always kept it light and fun no matter what the stress level. But when it came to football and academics, he was laser focused. He wanted to be a doctor...from a school with no biolgy classes...but he would have done it. I can remember the game he got the nod to hit the field. He jogged on the field like he owned the place. Lloyd and I gave him grief for weeks because he ran onto the field, thumbs up like the Fonz. Then there was the game against BC (I think)...it was a home game and late in third quarter it began snowing like crazy. At half time, Charlie suggested the team change from astro turf cleats to regular grass cleats for better traction. We slaughtered BC in the second half to win the game. Charlie always talked about his family - kept a picture of the bunch on his desk. Hard to know what God's plan is for us. Charlie may be gone - but he lived life to its fullest each and every day.
