Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Marv Walworth on January 18, 2020:

Mark was a gregarious, fun loving, caring friend and roommate (at USMA), with an insatiable curious and desire to learn all he could about the world. We both had our quirks. His was perfections. I remember how many pairs of black low quarters (dress shoes) he went through at the Academy because they did not crease PERFECTLY in a straight line behind his toes. I also remember threatening to pull a curling chip of paint off the wall (thus ruining the solid color in our cadet room) if he did not stop doing whatever it was that was bothering me. Finally, he wanted a perfect 4-yr record of ZERO time spent on The Area, marching tours. You could have deep conversations with Mark and share what you were REALLY feeling/thinking and not be afraid to be judged. He always took the effort to reach out and keep our friendship going, even to the very end. Just a couple of weeks ago, we were planning a sailing trip across Lake Michigan, and planning to host him and his other friends at our home after the Seattle to Portland bike ride later this year. We were going to meet him at the Finish Line. I guess he got there first. Godspeed, my faithful friend.
