Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Ewart Carpenter on December 27, 2018:

I was a member of Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL)in Afghanistan. I interviewed Col Snodgrass in 2012. He was a most interesting man. We talked literally for hours. He was very personable. He had a deep understanding of the history of India and Pakistan. That's why we talked for hours. He could take you back to the Mongol invasion of Afghanistan. He was just coming off a deployment with the Joint Coordination Center at the Kyber Pass. This was an incredibly important job that it required de-confliction of Afghan Pakistan and ISAF forces on the tumultuous border. I watched him conduct a meeting between Australian, French, Pakistan, US, and Afghanistan forces. He handled it smoothly. I was re-reading my interview with him and Googled his name. It was a great shock to find that he has passed. For anyone interested the interview was a 15 page read. He certainly held my attention. The last time I saw the Colonel was at Ft. Benning before redeployment 2013. He was gracious and upbeat. I am saddened to learn of his passing. He was a good man and served his country well. God Speed.
