Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Ira Davis on March 24, 2007:
It took me a long, long time to actually put pen to paper. Every time I thought about it I couldn't hold it together long enough to write even one line; but when I did, this just rolled out in one sitting. Thinking about your loss still brings tears to my eyes. Thinking about your life still brings a smile to my face and laughter to my heart. IBD
A thousand-watt smile Grins at me from the darkness Your honest laugh Warming my heart Making me laugh along with you The memories flood back to me Your popping elbows You and me, each with a box Ice cream sandwiches Gone in a flash
Tears cloud my eyes After all these months If only I'd known your pain If only I'd called more often Would one more email have changed your plan? My heart aches at your loss Why, Brother, Why? So many of us here loved you And we still do We MISS you I miss you. You had so much left to give You touched so many lives The outpouring of love at your funeral Stunned me in its magnitude
I was a better officer Because I knew you I am a better man Because I knew you I knew what true love is Because I knew you Your love for Trudy gave me hope That the love of my life even existed Now that I've found her I can show her your love I wish you could see us I wanted you to be my best man
"And when our work is done Our course on Earth is run May it be said, 'Well done; Be thou at Peace.'" I miss you, Man. I Love You, John.
