Be Thou At Peace

| I think of LT Sherry often because she and I were in the same unit during Desert Shield & Desert Storm and we were two of the few women in our unit. She was a brand new platoon leader and I was one the platoon sergeants in her company. She had a light and a charisma that I will never forget. She was bright and eager to learn from everyone. She had established a wonderful rapport with her soldiers and was a good leader. She was always smiling-- even when we were covered in the desert dust of Iraq. I came to admire her and thought she was a wonderful officer because even though relatively new to the company, she was confident, focused, professional, and fearless. We had known each other briefly but the war made us feel especially close. I will never forget her and feel blessed to have known her. |
