Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Diedra Turner on June 25, 2008:

My heartfelt condolences to Sarah and Jim's parents. Jim's smile and love for Soldiers will be missed by many.

Jim was my first boss when I arrived in Korea fresh out of flight school (late 1996). He was the HHC Commander and I was his XO, but only for a few short months. Within the first month of my duties as XO, we needed to inventory some of the ammunition he was responsible for in the southern part of the country at a Battalion detachment near Taegu. During that visit, we learned that the detachment was in need of some leadership in the form of a lieutenant.

Upon arrival back at our home base, Jim encouraged me to seek the opportunity even though he knew my position under his command would remain open until another replacement would arrive. His selfless service and mentoring Soldiers were very strong characteristics.

Long story short, the career path that followed for me allowed me to pursue unique leadership opportunities and also created the path to meeting my husband.

Jim was one of the best leaders I ever worked with. I am priveleged to have known such a wonderful, honorable man.
