Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michael Taylor on October 23, 2003:

I received word of Dave's passing from a mutual friend of ours, Mike Wise, in the middle of the night on Sunday. You can't imagine the sense of loss that overwhelmed me as I heard Mike tell me this. I haven't talked to Mike, who is my best friend, in about a year and I was so overwhelmed that I could barely even hold any type of conversation with him. Dave was a great friend whose just being around made everyone want to strive to do better. He worked so hard, and made it look so effortless, to be the best that those around him couldn't help but be inspired.

I swam with Dave all four years at West Point and he was a very big part of everything that went on within the team. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Especially his teammates who spent so many an hours in the pool training along side him.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernstein, I am so so sorry for your loss and I am grieving right along side you. I will never forget the times I was with Dave down at your house and how much you made everyone who came through feel at home. I cherish the time that I did have with Dave and want you to know that he will never be forgotten by any of us who got to know him well. You should be proud of every one of his accomplishments and that he was able to give his life for something he deeply believed in. May he rest in peace now that his Duty is Done.
