Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Brett Lanier on May 26, 2008:

Drew was the first friend I had at West Point. We were in the same squad during Beast Barracks and it was Drew that got us through that first summer. As a "prepster" and former enlisted man, he showed the rest of us the ropes and would "square us away" anytime we faltered. His sarcasm, laugh, and sense of humor helped us unwind after a hard day and his stories about being a MP gave us a sense of what it would be like in the "real Army." I truly looked up to Drew and didn't know how I'd make it through Plebe year without his help at the end of that summer. Lucky for me, he and I were both assigned to H-1 as Root Hawgs. Plebe year, he continued to square me away. Yearling year, I witnessed his peer leadership and constant adherence to standards. He was an example to model your leadership style after.

Although I regrettably did not see him often after Yearling year, whenever I did, his face would always light up with that big smile, he'd grip my hand, and I couldn't help but smile as he'd always start, "BRO..."

I will always remember Drew happily. Well Done Bro! Be Thou At Peace!
