Mark Andess Garner

West Point, 2002

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by James B. White USMA Class of 1980 on July 9, 2009:

I was moved to write upon seeing the notice of Mark's passing from my West Point Society. I thank God for men like Mark and the families that raise them. Whenever I wonder if America is still worthy of the Lord's blessings, the sacrifices of men and women like Mark remind me that one heroic soul can redeem countless sins and shortcomings. By that measure, America is still a blessed nation, and I am thankful that my family and I can still count on patriots like Mark to stand in the breach, even when we may not be worthy of that last measure of devotion.

As the father of a son who is serving, I tell you that you are living my greatest fear. I will pray that the love and grace of Jesus Christ sustain and strengthen you in this time of trial.

Deepest sympathy and highest regards,

Jim
