Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SPC. Zachary Risley on November 11, 2010:

Cpt. Garner,
You were always an approachable man, and your words of wisdom helped me as a young soldier recently deployed for the first time. It's rare to find an officer who paid such attention to the individual needs of Soldiers as you did, especially considering I was not even in your unit, only supporting it. I stayed there at FOB Lane long after this atrocious incident occurred, and every day I would look at your memorial placed next to your room and remember just how much our forces were hurt by the loss of such a competent Officer. You continued to give me courage and guidance until the day I left the sand box, and on this day your memory reaches out to me yet again to remind me of all you have done. You are truly a Veteran worth emulating.
