West Point, 2003

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dan Helmer on June 26, 2004:

The Army has lost a great man and a great mind. Lenny spent an enormous amount of time as a cadet studying the history of the Middle East. He was fascinated by it and demonstrated compassion and empathy for peoples of the area whose histories were wrought with tragedy. I learned an incredible amount by being able to study alongside him as we both wrote our history theses on subjects in Middle East history. America and our Army have lost a keen intellect, whose full contributions toward changing the future will never be realized. In some ways, it is a loss that we never can recover from; all must take Lenny as an inspiration to effect positive change in this world. Thank you Lenny for your service and to your family and wife for allowing and encouraging you to serve. Your name will permanently be etched into that history that you so ardently studied as a beacon of sacrifice, guaranteeing freedom not just for your country but for another. Rest in peace, my friend; job well done. You will never be forgotten.
