Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Russ Parsons on April 18, 2004:

I was in Company H-1 with Hank. He was one of the most likeable and engaging personalities I've ever met. He was sharp as a tack but liked to play up his backwoods upbringing and came across as an "aw shucks" good-ol-boy. He seemed to be always smiling and enjoying himself and it was fun to be around him. He had an unending supply of funny stories, many centered around the "white lightning" brewed in the hills back home in, I believe, Kentucky. I don't remember specifically why Hank left the Point, but I think he flunked one of the many tough subjects we studied during Cow year. I do remember it came as a shock to those of us who liked him--which, basically, was everybody who knew him.
