Be Thou At Peace

Posted by THOMAS C. WEST on February 21, 2004:

Ken and I were assigned to USMA Prep School in 1950 before entering West Point. Ken(his friends call him Rip)I found out over the years was a narcoleptic, hence the name Rip for Rip Van Winkle. We lost touch when he was found plebe or yearling year. He reverted to his enlisted status and went to Korea during the Conflict. He received a battlefield commission and remained in the Army until the Korean Conflict was over and then returned to civilian life. He resurfaced to our class about our 20th reunion. I remember him calling and asking if he could come. He got reaquainted with his old classmates and over the years he would call just to say "hi" and tell me how things were going. His final job was with Sikorsky in Connecticut where he retired and eventually moved to Florida and subsequently died. I remember him telling me that he once was a race car driver which left me in total disbelief since he was a narcoleptic. Truth is stranger than fiction.
He loved our Class and all its members and was proud to have been even a small part of it.
He will be missed by me and all who knew him.
