I didn't know Laura personally, but I saw her almost everyday here at Forward Operating Base Salerno before her unit moved to Kandahar. Laura and her Soldiers had been pouring concrete landing pads for my unit's aircraft before 864th re-deployed. About six weeks ago as I was walking across the flight line in the blistering Afghanistan sun, I saw her walking up to her soldiers with a bag full of cold drinks from the PX. While she could have just brought them water that wouldn't have cost her anything, she made the effort to bring her Soldiers something cold as they poured concrete. I thought to myself, "there's someone who cares about her Soldiers." Well done. Andrew Rutan Class of 2000 |
