Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Adam Nordin on May 29, 2023:

Jay Jones-

Over a year now, things have been quieter than you remember. We aren't too busy with the exception of occasional embassy evacuations due to failing states.

I'm learning more and more about what it means to be done. In this business, nobody's ever really done. We just shift our attention to different problems, but the effort stays the same. I'm learning that many are finding closure in knowing the Middle East has concluded- the thought of an end, no matter how Ill-defined, gives them much-needed peace.

I wish I could extend that peace to you and your family. I wish that it meant those we lost are released back to life - like hockey players in a penalty box going back to their team at the end of the game. I suppose what we are really experiencing isn't the end of the game, just the end of a quarter. In the mean-time, we will re-group and find another strategy to win the game.

As we prepare for the next quarter or next half of the game, I'm reminded that winning must also honor your sacrifice. That we must train, and prepare, and work if for no other reason than to honor those we've lost, so we can be stronger than our opponent in the moment of greatest weakness.

Though you are not here with us, we are stronger to have known you.

Rest easy, brother. You are not forgotten. -Adam
