I had the distinct honor of knowing John for about the past month before his Sacrifice. John's Pathfinder unit is attached to my taskforce here in Afghanistan. Almost on a nightly basis John would visit our section in the TOC, whether he needed something or just to hang out. Though I didn't know John very long, he turned out to be one of the greatest Academy brothers I've ever known. He was a true Soldier's Soldier and perished doing what he loved best: leading his Soldiers in combat. John's life and laughter here in Kandahar will never be forgotten and his passing serves as a reminder of the job still to be done here in Afghanistan.
