Tim, I'm currently not far from where I first saw your photo on the wall in the 3 BCT, 10th MTN RAOC on KAF in Afghanistan in January 2012. It was a long, somber moment -- one that I will never forget. Today is Memorial Day, 26 May 2014. I've told your story several times, particularly to my company that I recently relinquished. I think some of my lieutenants knew you, and it's always good to see their faces light up when talking about the good times. As I celebrate those that have come before me and reflect on their sacrifice, I remember you. I still look at the picture of you giving me that first salute and here I am, 7 years later, still wearing the uniform. You are not forgotten, Brother. Your sacrifice was not in vain. The tide is slowly turning here in Afghanistan, and we are making progress relinquishing responsibility to the Afghans. Though there is much work to be done, the purpose of your efforts is still real and true. Rest well, Brother. -Adam |
