31 July 2012 Dear 1LT Jacobs, Sir, I am deeply saddened to have read of your passing due to enemy combat. Your service and sacrifice has kept America free of its enemies reaching its shores since 11 September 2001. The decision to be an Army Soldier is fraught with risk and you have given the last full measure of devotion in fulfilling this duty. Thank you for being there and serving when it counted the most, a debt of gratitude that this Nation and I owe you. To Sean's family, friends, and colleagues, I share with you the pain and grief of his passing and hope that time will move swiftly to ease this suffering that you are experiencing right now.
