| Col. Smith served our country with distinction. Among other awards he received two Silver Stars, a Bronze Star, the Distinguished Service Cross and the Legion of Merit. According to others that served with him, he was a very well liked person with a great sense of humor. At the point of his death he was only forty-five and was to return to the US from his post in Japan to receive a promotion. His loss cheated this country out of a man bound for even more greatness. |
