Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Arthur Greenspan on June 11, 2010:

I served in Berlin, from 1957 to 1959. General D'Orsa was the CG. I was a private working in the HQ Company, running the Sports Programs for the command. The general got to know me, and we became handball competitors, playing at least twice a week. From the get go, he said "forget about my rank, lets just play to win". And play we did for abut 19 months. I don't think he ever beat me, but all I can say is, he left it all out on the court. This was a tough man! As it turned out, we discovered we attended the same high school in the Bronx (De Witt Clinton), which bonded us forever.

Berlin was a four power city then (prior to the wall), and the General took nothing, not a thing, from the Russians. I admired him so. Short in height, long in guts!

He was a stand up guy, never flinching , never backing away.

You sir, will always be in my heart.
