Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michael Fairman on April 23, 2001:

I met John during Beast last summer. Tim Murphy, also on the hockey team, introduced me to Heinny. I looked at him and shook his hand. He was just smiling, something most new cadets do not do very much. I asked him how he was doing. He said, "ah, not bad at all, how are you?" I was almost shocked by how happy he was. It just exemplifies how he was always optimistic about everything. Always so happy...
I will never forget his first college hockey game against Union College. During warm-ups, I knew he was nervous. I asked him if he was ready to play. He said, "Mikey, I have been waiting my whole life for this." He made the most of it that game. He gave it everything he had. I am proud to be his teammate. I am proud that I knew such an honest and happy person. Everyone liked him. No one will forget him either.

With much sympathy...
