Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Diane Mathis on April 27, 2001:

I am the mother of an 04 Cadet, and the wife of a 79 grad. We were just returning our Cadet and her boyfriend when we heard the train whistle.... Little did we know that it was your son, John that would leave such an impact on our lives! As parents we can only send you our most hearfelt sympathy. We do not know how we would be able to do what God has given you to do. However, we do know that there are many people that have you in their prayers, including ourselves.
This summer we had the opportunity to meet your wonderful son, as we were medical volunteers at Lake Frederick. He came into our clinic as a "battle buddy" helping a classmate in need. I had the opportunity to talk with him as my husband worked on the sick around us. What a wonderful young man he was! Purely as a mom speaking, he was a son to be proud of!!!!!!
I wish we could somehow help to ease your pain, I know we can't. But know that we were blessed to have had the opportunity to spend a few moments with that wonderful son of yours! He was a special angel who was sent out to take care of the class of 2004!

With deepest heart felt sympathy,
Tim and Diane Mathis "79, '04.
