Be Thou At Peace

John,

Twenty years ago today you were born. Four months ago today you were buried. Life can be so unfair, both for you and for everyone who knew you.

I am lucky, though, because I have many memories of you. I watched you as a baby, and saw you grow into a boy, then a teenager, and then a young man. I was able to see you play baseball, hockey and football. I saw how kind and polite and intelligent you became, and how you easily made friends and made people around you feel comfortable. When I would go to see you play hockey, you made me feel appreciated when you would come to me after the game and say, "Thanks for coming to my game, Uncle Pete." I don't think I ever saw you in a bad mood - you always had a smile or grin on your face. There are so many good things I will remember about you. I wish I could add to those memories.

John, I'm very proud of you, of what you have been and what you could have become. I will miss you always.

Happy birthday, John.

Peter Vogel
