Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kent Justice on July 7, 2002:

I regret to say that I did not know that this site existed until just now. I was John's First Sergeant for the Second Detail of his Beast Barracks. Although I cannot recall any instances where I personally interacted with him, for it has been over two years ago now, I know that I must have talked to him at one point. As First Sergeant, it is difficult to interact with individuals in the company, given the large amount of people placed under you. However, I remember distinctly hearing the news of John's death in the second semester, and how crushing it was. I recognized the name instantenously as having been in E Co., making him one of my old new cadets. I felt a piece of me hurting that day, as it stings me now to think of his loss to the Academy. The TAPS vigil was numb for me, but I stood there for John. Undoubtedly he is in a better place than this Earth now, and for his short time of service to the Academy and the Army, I thank him and his family.
