Be Thou At Peace

Posted by None on December 15, 2000:

I still can't believe he's gone. It seems like yesterday that we were "partying" in Newburgh on Yearling Winter Week-end. In my memory, it is like yesterday. I have so many wonderful memories of times spent with John when he was in H-4...what a fun bunch of guys...Matt Stader, Mike Clancy, Ross Dolgoff, Mike Hunter, Tim Bornholz, Chad Bixby, and the rest. We've all gone our separate ways - funny how life and responsibilities take us in different directions. What I wouldn't give to have one more day with John. One day to enjoy his company and be able to laugh with him...to do something totally silly. To be able to poke fun at Texas, to talk about his mother's cooking, to reminisce about TDY in Orlando, to just sit and chit chat. In his short time, John really had learned to enjoy life. Even in the middle of all the chaos he could find the littlest thing to make you laugh. Remember John, remember how he always had something nice to say. Remember his smile that could light up a room. I miss our marathon phone calls, the maddening redial to call him at school...the funny messages that we used to leave for one another. Whenever I visit West Point, I walk by the brick with John's name on it which is in front of the alumi building. I remember the good times, I smile and say a prayer. I know that John is looking down on all of us, and watching over us when we need it.
