James Andrew "Jim" Gibbs II was born at Orth, Young County, Texas, February 24, 1936 to James A. Gibbs and Minnie (Dyer) Gibbs. He attended public schools in Olney, TX; Whitsboro, TX; Andrews, TX; Newcastle, TX and Gainesville, TX.
"Fish" as he was know at West Point, attended one year at Texas A & M awaiting the appointment to the Point. When Jim was 30 he married Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Mahan, 16 jul 1966. They had two daughters: Christine Elizabeth, 4 Aug 1969 and Diana Kathlene, 5 mar 1971.
Major James Andrew Gibbs II was killed in a car accident 20 Dec 1972 in Germany. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville, Cooke County, TX.
