Be Thou At Peace

Posted by none on May 28, 2002:

My friend,

Was it only yesterday when we stood together in line at Beast? Was it only yesterday that you conned me into visiting Texas with you? Eight years has passed, and I miss you more with every coming year. I recently had the opportunity to teach a class at the Naval Academy. The civillian world does have its perks, at least that's what you used to tell me. When one of the middies asked me about heroes, I replied 2nd Lt. John Sarabia or SarAbia depending on who you are and where you live. The looks on their faces as they scurried through their textbooks to find that famous American was priceless. It was something you would have loved.

You are my biggest hero, because you always stuck up for what was right. You never let the little guy get stepped on. You battled adversity, and didn't let it beat you. You made it make you a better person. For those scant reasons and many more that will remain in the recesses of my heart, never to be spoken to a soul, do I honor you. I loved you like a brother, and still do.

"We few, we band of brothers..." I will never forget you and all that you did to make me a better person. Farewell until we meet again.
