Be Thou At Peace

| To be fair, I did not know General Macwilliams very well. My contact with him was primarily when he was my Dad's boss as head of the USMA Chemistry department in the late 60's. However, General Macwilliams spoke at my Dad's retirement ceremony in 1990. He struck me as a kind, gentle, yet strong gentleman -- very much like my father. This past weekend I made a trip up to West Point to visit my Dad's grave. I did not know that General Macwilliams had passed away. When I got to my Dad's site, I saw General Macwilliams grave no more than a few feet from my father's grave. Somehow it seemed initially sad, but ultimately appropriate. Sir, may you rest in peace. You did well. |
