Hal was a high school classmate of mine at College Park, GA. He was immensely popular in the class. Joe Bishop was also in the class but one year ahead of us. Hal made it into the academy directly from high school. Sam Collins, my WP and College Park classmate, and I had to wait a year for an appointment. I am a member of WP class 1958. Hal's parents were overseas during his senior year in high school and Hal stayed with the football coach in order to finish school. Hal was very likeable. He came across as a little shy and bashful, but I always though of that as humility. He was very talented. As I remember, he was elected president of the junior class and I was vice president. When He left with his parents, (to return later) I took over as president. I did not see Hal after he graduated from WP and only once during our time at WP that I can remember. Hal showed great potential. I remember him as always friendly. |
