From a contemporary press report: CARY, RANDOLPH JEFFERSON, SR., LTC, USA (Ret.) Randolph Jefferson Cary, Sr., Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army (retired) died May 25, 2000, at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina. Colonel Cary was born February 13, 1921 in Richmond, Virginia. He attended the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He served in World War II and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Herbert Cary; two sons, Randolph Jefferson Cary, Jr. of Burlington, North Carolina and William Pinkney Herbert Cary of Greensboro, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Randolph Jefferson Cary, III, David Wilson Cary, Rebecca Elizabeth Cary and Ann Douw Cary. He is also survived by one brother, George Douglas Miller Cary of Lynchburg, Virginia; and two sisters, Mrs. Lee Scoville Tilton of Richmond, Virginia and Mrs. Helen Cary Stewart of Pacific Palisades, California. A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC on Friday, May 26, 2000.
