Anthony Miller
West Point, 2004
Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Douglas L. Kincaid on February 4, 2002:
I met Anthony Miller on the sidelines of one of the USMAPS football games during the 1999 season. Our family had traveled to Pennsylvania to watch our son who was a teammate of Anthony's. I introduced myself to Anthony at half time during the game. He said that he was from Waldorf, Maryland and I related to him that we had lived in La Plata, Md. about ten miles south of Waldorf for twelve years but had returned to West Virginia in 1974.
I remember that Anthony was so polite and well mannered. I asked him why he had come to USMAPS to play ball. He said that he hoped to become a varsity football player for West Point and then to become an officer in the U. S. Army and perhaps make a difference in the world some day. I spoke to Anthony on one other occasion; at the Plebe Parent week-end in 2000. He was so happy that he had made the varsity and was looking forward to playing against Navy that year. As I watched Anthony play in the Army-Navy game this year, I recalled our conversation on the sideline and thought that he was indeed reaching those lofty goals he had set for himself. Anthony, I am sure the class of 2004 is very proud of you and will always remember you in their thoughts and prayers as will the parents of 2004 and the entire West Point Family. I'm sure I will.
