Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Shane on February 4, 2002:
This is an e-mail message I sent Anthony shortly after I heard about his passing. I didn't know how else to tell him how I felt, and I just needed to write it out.
Hey Bro, I know you are never going to get the chance to read this, but I just need to let you know how I feel. I wanted to thank you for making me a better player. You made it fun for me to come to practice. Scout team isn't the most glamorous job, but you're competitiveness made it worth while for me. I loved competing against you. Not many players come out every day with the attitude you always showed up with. I know we got in some fights and stuff during practice, but I'm sure you know that it was just because we are so competitive by nature. I loved when you would line up on my side. Better yet, when you would come in motion from the other side and lead block for an outside run. I gave everything I had when I saw you coming because I knew that you were going to be bringing everything you had. The few I times I beat your blocks really made me feel like I was accomplishing something. I haven't had a chance to play in many games, but you made practice so competitive it felt like a game. You were an amazing player that I truly respected and loved. You made the game fun for me in times that I really wasn't sure if I wanted to be playing any more. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to play with a person as dedicated and special as yourself. I truly enjoyed it and will miss you tremendously. Thank you for being you and for being my brother. I know you are in a better place now. I am going to give everything I have this season for you. I know the rest of your brothers will be doing the same. I love you man. Love Always, Shane
