Anthony Miller

West Point, 2004

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by CPT John Stark on February 5, 2002:

Anthony, known simply as "A-Train" in my E hour class of History of the World in 2001, was a gregarious individual. If you're not sure what that word means, you should look it up, and add it to your vocabulary because when you speak of "A-Train" Anthony Miller, this is the best word to describe him. His personality commanded friends, admirers, peers, and even superiors to respect him.

He was a joy to have in class. When he was struck ill in the spring of 2001, I was ready to drive to the hospital in Westchester where he was recovering, but he assured me he was on his way back to West Point and that he would be fine. We sat in hours of "AI," additional instruction, to make up for the classes he missed. It didn't seem to bother Anthony at all to have to do the extra work. He was eager to learn. Though he didn't exactly get an "A" in my class, he was always the "A-Train." When I saw him, he would laugh and shake my hand and ask me how my basketball season was going, as if his own football and track exploits paled in comparison. When I congratulated him on the blocked punt in the Navy game he just smiled and shrugged and asked me how I was doing. I never thought to ask if he ever had any left over effects from his illness. I guess he had them, but you'd never have known it two weeks ago. I jogged a lap with him at the track before one of my own basketball games and his track practice. He was all smiles, as usual. We'll all miss that.

Goodbye, A-Train
