Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Kathy - '04 Parent on February 5, 2002:
My husband and I just came back from West Point and were at the Yearling Banquet when the Deputy Com Gen Olson made the anouncement about the death of Cadet Miller. There was a wave of shock and sadness that you could feel come over everyone in Washington Hall. Gen. Olson made some very strong points about how all of the Cadets are tied to each other. He had the Cadets stand in answer to several questions he asked about Cadet Miller. By the time he was done every Cadet in the Hall was standing. It really brought the point home well. My Cadet knew him personally not just as a Cadet who played a great game of football. I could see the news hit him hard that night. Plans were then started for the Cadet Vigil. The dinner went on and the dance was fun but you could hear every once in awhile Cadets talking about what had happened. I would just like to let everyone know, if they don't by now, our Cadets are very much tied to each other and to all of the Long Gray Line that has gone before. Saturday night in Washington Hall made that very clear. I too would like to send my best wishes to the Miller family at this time. I would like to let them know that their son will always have a place in the hearts of the Cadet's of '04. He is still part of them and always will be.
