Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Louis Snowden '90 on March 9, 2002:

All too often it is not until someone departs us that we come to realize just how much of an impact they've had on our lives. Curt Feistner's untimely passing reminds us of this and leaves us deeply saddened at the loss of a great man: a loving son, loyal friend, respected colleague, and devoted leader, a true comfort to anyone who ever needed consolation or support. In time, our sorrow and grief will give way to happiness and gratitude that Curt came into our lives. I hope that he knows how honored we all are to be numbered among the people he cared for. To touch the lives of others and enrich them was something that came naturally to Curt. His giving nature, compassion for others, and love of family, friends, and the soldiers he led will forever be remembered.

Thinking of Curt brings to mind fond memories of a classmate who was a perpetually vivacious, fun-loving personality for whom no challenge was too great. An avid sportsman, Curt was into everything, from cross-country skiing to triathlon, from scuba diving to cycling. He did it all with joy and dedication. Reflecting upon this boundless energy, which took him in so many different directions, it becomes readily apparent that Curt lived life to the fullest, experiencing in his 34 years upon this earth more than most of us will in our lifetimes. But despite all of his talents, what truly stood out about Curt was his absolute lack of pretension. He was one of the most humble people around. A genuinely modest and reserved person, Curt was not one to publicly dote over his many accomplishments. Instead, it was his nature to magnify the positive attributes and accomplishments of others. This quality is largely the reason why he was such a respected and successful leader - one in whom his soldiers could unflinchingly put their trust and confidence.

As time passes, our memory of Curt will not fade. His zeal for life, fullness of character, and love of others will continue to warm our hearts and brighten our days. Curt's remarkable life was a reflection of the spirit within him. That beautiful beacon of light that shone so brightly while he walked with us continues to shine in the presence of God. We miss you Curt, but the fruits of your spirit are still with us and will always be. May you rest in eternal peace.
