Be Thou At Peace
Posted by K. Lofreddo on April 26, 2002:
Dear Dad, It appears my last letter has disappeared from the website; the irony only that I had at last come to terms with the shocking and utterly apparent personality traits that you possessed and past on. I of course am the last person to judge the things that you have done. But, it is also clear that the man I had idolized and admired for countless years remains only in my vivid childish fantasies. I spent years waiting for my knight in shining armor...measuring every man up against a legend and myth that only existed in my mind.
Obviously, the shock of finding out that you were only one of us... does not begin to explain my earlier letter to anyone but myself. I will be coming and watching you get honored for your heroism in battle and your physical prowess on the football field in May with Cyn.
I don't have any stories to tell or many pictures of you; simply because of the way you chose to live your life and the choices that you made, our mother made and your family made. I can only accept responsibility for myself and believe me- I realize we are more alike than I ever dreamed possible. Duty, Honor, Country and Service before Self. These are qualities that you embodied and will be recognized for.
Integrity, Moral fiber, Honesty and Faithfulness..let's just say that we all have our areas that need to be worked on. I know the people that run the site seem to think that my letter's are some how demeaning to your life and this honor that they are about to bestow on you. But, as I tend to be a realist and skeptic, who actually are they helping in this situation, you?? Me?? Cyn?? Elaine?? Because Dad, family is all that matters. All my love...Kath.
