Be Thou At Peace

Posted by BG R.M. Ong '63 on April 28, 2002:

I never met Major Feistner. At first, he was just a name in the newspaper and radio and TV about someone who died in a chopper accident in the Philippines. But perhaps, I feel his loss as much as anyone else in his life, because I, too, was trained by the U.S. Army Special Forces. I, too, have participated in many Philippine Army - U.S. Army joint military exercises. And I have lost many friends - seniors, peers and subordinates alike - during my 37 years as a uniformed soldier.

Curt, you died well. Thank you for helping my people. Thank you for training the Filipino soldiers. And thank you for serving my country. We will never forget the your ultimate sacrifice. But to his family, I can never thank them enough for raising such a fine young man. Curt is now part of us, part of Philippine history and a part of every freedom-loving Filipino.

Be thou at peace!
Ramon M. Ong USMA '63
