Paul Johnson, Dan, and I were Beast roomies. There was little to laugh about those first few days, but Paul and I are forever indebted to Dan for being posted into the closet on a daily basis to improve his "command voice". From the dark corners we would hear muffled renditions of "Yes Sir", "No Sir", and the Incontestible "No excuse Sir". In the years since, I see this episode in a somewhat different light: Dan had courage. He was going to make it no matter what the Beast Detail thought. Bob Dey |
