Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SFC Michael D. Greenwood on June 7, 2002:

My memories of Andy are from our high school days in Stuttgart. I can't say we were best friends but we were as close back then as friends could be with out being best friends. We participated in many things together: football, JROTC Rifle Team, JROTC Staff. He even convinced me to join the Drill Team in which he was Captain of(I am thankful for that expeience). He was so very professional then. He was a role model. I can remember many times when he would stay over at my house when ever we had an away game or match and we had to be at the school early to catch the bus. We would stay up and talk for hours to the point of sleeping on the bus and feeling wore out even before we played, but he never complained and gave it his all. The fun we had in Mrs. Maas english class. I think we invented more words in that class then we wish Mrs. Maas to know about. Andy was a good friend, an excellent example of what a person should be. I always felt bad that I lost contact with him after high school and I have wondered many times how things were going for him. I had no doubt about him joining the military. He was already that kind of man back then... A Professional, a Soldier, a leader. Reading what I have about him I am not surprised at all. That was Andy. I have so many things to tell and can't find the words. I didn't know him as a West Point Cadet or an actual Army Officer but only as a JROTC Officer and friend. But even then, I knew what he would be. I knew that he would be the best leader, friend, husband, father the he could ever be. I know that Andy never changed, he didn't have to, he was already everything he wanted to be and was doing what he wanted to do. Nicole and kids, you don't know me at all but I knew Andy, your daddy and I wish to you the peace of knowing that he is with Our Heavenly Father right now looking down at you and pouring his heart and love towards you so that you can feel his love and comfort. If I know him I know that he is already preparing your home in heaven so that he will have everythng already for you. My heart and prayers go out to you.

Respectfully

Michael D. Greenwood
