Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jim Ramsden on June 14, 2002:

I remember when Dad left for Vietnam in 1969. I was 10 years old and he gave me the old "your the man of the house now" speech. And unfortunately for my brother and two sisters, I took it VERY seriously. I remember that on the day he was to return, the four of us kids slept in sleeping bags near the front door - so that there was no chance of my Mom departing for the airport without us. I remember my younger brother and sister thinking that my Dad had spent a year flying around the air in the same airplane he had departed in. I remember all of our carefully made "Welcome home, Dad" signs all curled up when we returned from the airport due to the morning dew. I remember my Dad being astonished at how deep my voice had become in the year he was gone.

I am very proud of my Dad for serving his country. Happy Father's Day.
