| John Spiedel was wounded with B Troop, 2/17 Cavalry while preforming the duties of a pilot. John died of his wounds a month after being recovered from his helicopter that was shot down in the A Shau Valley on April 23, 1971. I recently met with family members of his then wife Ellen, and others involved in this battle. If it's true that you're not really gone if you're not forgotten, then John lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. Many former members of L Company Ranger, 101st Airborne owe their lives to John and the men like him. Thank you John. RW |
