Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kent Justice on July 4, 2002:

I regret to say that I only interacted with Zac AFTER graduation from West Point. The busy life of the cadet, combined with the fact that neither of our lives overlapped, resulted in me only hearing the name for four years. However, when I was grouped with him and three others (Rob Smith, Ken Wainwright, Rob Padgett) to attend Ranger School immediately following graduation, there was an instant bond among the five of us, for we knew what we were walking into. It makes me sick to think that this has happened. The very event that resulted in my early departure from Ranger School (failing land navigation twice) was a catalyst for misfortune for Zac. It has been on my mind since I first heard the news. My thoughts and prayers are fully with all those affected. For those who will eventually attend the Ranger training or any other serious Army training - from someone who has gone and failed already - , take care of yourself always and take it as serious as your life.
