Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jonathan Childs on October 23, 2002:

I've known Zac for four years. We've been hazed together, we've delivered upperclass laundry and mail together, and we've called "minutes" together. But on the other hand, we've also laughed, cheered, and had countless memorable times together. For four years, West Point has been my home and Company G-3 was my family. I was in the hospital when I heard about Zac. My first thought was "How could such a horrible thing happen?". I thought of it as a curse, with my nearly fatal car accident on graduation day being followed by Zac's tragedy exactly a month later. But now I think of it as Zac's new assignment. He has done things in 22 years that people four times his age haven't. My life has changed for the better having known him. He has traded in his Class A uniform for a robe, his ruck sack for a set of wings, and his black beret for a halo. Heaven is his new home. God bless you, Zac and...GO GOPHERS!

"May it be said, 'well done!' Be now at peace"
