Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Jack Price on December 12, 2002:
I remember you from your days training at West Point for your Olympic event of Walking, an event I didn't even know existed! Often wondered how you came to get focused on that particular event.
I followed you into B Company as a platoon leader, reporting to Camp Zinn, named in your honor. It was only the beginning. The war went on for years, and War Zone D claimed two of my classmates from the Brigade, Claire Thurston and Dave Ugland, along with many others. You benchmarked a distinguished combat heritage.
Bob Warfield was the Company Commander when I came along. He has visited your grave at West Point, and provided the picture shown on this Eulogy Page. Visitors have left stones on your grave marker and show that othes have not forgotten.
Tony and Karen Hartle, from Okinawa days are still at West Point where he is Head of the English Department now. Karen was present when Barbara got the news of your death. You're close, among friends.
We had a memorial service at Arlington Veterans Day, next to the 173rd Airborne memorial. Many of those present you would recognze. Your name was read and a small American flag placed next to the memorial.
We know the magnitude of your life, and death, and still think of you and remember.
