Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Phyllis and Cliff Randall on January 5, 2003:

Shirlee and Family:
Horatio Spafford put his wife and children aboard a ship to England, planning to meet them, there after finishing some business in New York. The ship was lost at sea, and a telegram came saying" All are lost, except me." signed by his wife. Taking the next ship to England, Mr Spafford asked that it be stopped in mid-Atlantic near the site where he had lost his three children, and tossed a wreath into the sea. That night inh his stateroom, overwhelmed by his loss, he penned these words:
"When peace like a river , attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll- whatever my lot , Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. It is well with my soul, It is well with my soul, It is well, it is well with my soul."

I know that in this dark time of injury to you, Shirlee, and in the death of your beloved Frank, you can say with Mr Spafford, "it is well with my soul." In spite of the pain of loss, God IS in control of a world turned upside down for each of you. He loved Frank, and he loves each of you. We are praying for each of you as you deal with Frsank's final things on earth and adjust to another chapter in your lives without him. God has taken Frank unto Himself, prematurely by your and our standards, but He knows the season for Frank's time with us, and His timing is never premature. Even knowing that, we all grieve our personal loss of one we loved having with us.

Another hymn that has helped me at times like this says"Help me then, in every situation, so to trust Thy promises, O God, That I lose not faith's sweet consolation, Offered me within Thy Holy Word. Help me,Lord, when toil and trouble meeting, E'er to take, as from a Father's hand, One by one, the days, the moments fleeting, Till I reach the promised land."

Please know that you are in our prayers during this time of loss and healing. We will miss Frank.

In Christ we have our hope,
Phyllis and Cliff Randall
