Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Dean Newman on January 30, 2003:
To God: Dear God, I know that you have brought Adam to you, and because of that Grace, I know that he will rest peacefully forever. I am eternally grateful to your Son, Jesus Christ, who died for all of us so that we all can know your promise of Heaven and eternal life. Adam has earned his rest, Your peace, and Your love. Please, God, help us to accept your will as painlessly as possible. Amen.
To Adam: My dear brother, I am sorry that I am late. I am sorry that I was not there. I am sorry that I could not help you. I am sorry that I did not find out sooner. I am sorry that I could not be there for you. I am sorry that I was not there for your family sooner. I am sorry that I failed you. I am sorry that I have learned of this all too late. I am sorry. You deserved better. I will pray for your family, and I will pray for you. I will offer to you and your family whatever I can do to make up for my shortcomings. I beg for your forgiveness. Please, now, rest peacefully with God. He has brought you Home, your work on earth is done, your course on earth is run, and now you can serve His will unobstructed by earth's perversions. I love you, and I hope you can forgive me.
To Adam's wife and family: I cannot sufficiently express my deepest regrets and sympathies. Adam was my friend and brother. He and I were roommates together in 1994 and 1995, just prior to his marriage, while we lived on the North Shore in Hawaii. We were both LTs in the 25th ID(L). Later, he and I volunteered for the same career path in the army, and we were stationed together in Fort Bragg, NC. We attended SERE school together in 1999, and afterward, because we went to different units, I lost contact with him. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Adam was a man, a soldier, a professional, and a friend of the highest caliber. I have the deepest respect for him, and therefore, for all whom he held dear. Blessed are the poets, for theirs is the profession of finding the perfect words that I can't find right now. I am sorry that I could not be there for him. I am sorry that I failed him that day and since. I am sorry that I was here and he was there. I am sorry that I haven't been there for you sooner. I beg you for your forgiveness. I pray for your family, for Adam, and for God's Grace upon your family. You have my undying support, and if there is ever anything that I can do to assist you or yours in any way, I would be honored to help you.
I can be reached at dean.newman@us.army.mil. I hope to hear from any or all of you. I am deeply sorry. God bless you now and forever.
If anyone out there knows how I can contact Adam's wife and family, please email me.
God, please help us bring Your Will to earth in this war as quickly and painlessly as possible. Amen.
