Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Palmer McGrew on August 15, 1998:

I first met Jim while on our knees scrubbing the floor with toothbrushes.
It made no difference to the floor, it was just meant to harrass us and
give us some spirit of no sacrifice too great.

After Jim had risen to the rank of Professor, USMA, and had been diagnosed
with terminal cancer, I watched him retire surrounded by the Chief of Staff
of the Air Force, business owners, retired colonels and generals, many
from that same group of toothbrush scrubbers of many years before. We were
there because we loved our friend and admired his life, his work and his
spirit.

Since that time he has been a courageous fighter and an inspiration
to many, many others. He has always been that, but when the tough got tougher
his true courage, leadership and devotion to others shown the brightest.

We will always remember him with great affection. Well done, be thou
at peace.

Palmer
