Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Jamie Schleck on March 19, 1998:
COL Eugene P. Flannery was my uncle. He died in 1984, just four years after retiring from the Army. While in the Army he served as an FA officer for his first three years. He became a special forces officer and attended foreign language school with Nick Rowe. He then attended medical school and branch transfered into the medical corps. He served as chief of medicine at Letterman Army Hospital. He also served at Walter Reed. He was living in Olney Maryland when he died. He had established a very successful medical practice where he specialized in Oncology. His cause of death was a heart attack.
He left behind six children. Patrick the eldest is a graduate of Delaware University, and is working for a defense contractor in Arlington Virginia. Kady, the next in line is a graduate of the University of Maryland and is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program. Jimmy graduated from U-Penn and is a financial consultant for Merril Lynch. Peter is a graduate of the UC-Berkely, Molly is getting ready to graduate from Georgetown and Kerry is attending school in New York. His widow Mikel still lives in Olney MD.
In his short 46 years of life, my Uncle Pat had a tremendous impact on many lives. His memory will survive forever in all of our hearts. He spoke fondly of his days at West Point and in the Army.
