Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John M. R. Wilcox on November 12, 1998:

Jamie, I wish I knew what to say. When I heard you died, I wanted to believe that I was dreaming. I think in a way I am trying to belive that. Tomorrow the brotherhood will convene, less one, and the gap you've left is a big one.

I can remember when you Aaron and I first met almost 18 years ago. Time has had its way with our lives, but you and Aaron have always been two constants I could rely on. Even when we argued we never stayed angry at each other for very long, I don't think it was in either of our natures. You're the closest thing I have to an older brother, and you were always there. For almost 18 years I have called you friend, and will always. But in my heart we'll always be brothers, though not by blood. Rather, our bond came from a love that only friends as old as Aaron, you and I could know. We've followed common paths our entire lives, and I remember how important the Army was to us when we were in high school. And how we realised that the world was so much bigger than we ever concieved of, and just how precious every day was.

My only regret is that I never took the oportunity to tell you how I felt more often, though you were intuitive enough to know. You and Aaron and the entire brotherhood all hold a special place in my heart. And I know that in May when I pin on my bars of gold, that you will be there. Thank you for being there for me in all things. I love you very much, and I will miss you.

"Brothers"

John
