Lt. Col. Flay O. Goodwin Jr. Ret., 68, of Dunbar Township, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born March 15, 1935 in Lemont Furnace, Pa., son of the late Flay O. and Ruthella Bosley Goodwin Sr.

Flay was a longtime resident of Dunbar Township. He was a graduate of the former Dunbar Township High School with the Class of 1953. He then received an appointment to West Point Military Academy in New York and graduated from there in 1957. While at West Point, Flay played center and tackle on the varsity football team. He was a retired Veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served as a pilot during the Vietnam War. After his military career he worked as a pilot for Executive Air Fleet in New Jersey and he later worked as a pilot at the Connellsville Airport for various different companies in the area. He was a member of the Juniata Sportsman's Club.

Flay is survived by his loving wife, Peggy L. Ball Goodwin with whom he would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on June 5, 2003; three daughters Lisa A. Maczko and her husband John of Dunbar Township, Amy J. Goodwin of Uniontown and Jodi L. Ringer and her husband Brian of Connellsville; a son Maj. Flay R. Goodwin and his wife Mariko of San Diego, CA.; four grandchildren, John Maczko Jr. and Alyssa Maczko and Aaron and Ashley Ringer; a brother Montgomery C. Goodwin of Lemont Furnace and a sister, Donna Goodman and her husband James of Hopwood.

Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Pa., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home with Rev. Herb Dubier officiating.

A Committal Service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsvilla, Pa.
